R-1524(P)/WRR Countermeasures Receiver

I recently purchased (on Ebay) a navy receiver (used in submarines). The nomenclature is R-1524(P)/WRR (WRR means submarines). The receiver was built by Astro Communication Laboratory and is described as "Receiver, Countermeasures." Using removable tuning units, the receiver covers frequencies of 30MHz-1GHz. The unit I bought also includes a nice CEI panadaptor"

Other things I can tell you about this are: Came with a full set of manuals, Has 3 IF's 20Khz, 75Khz, 500Khz. I have to align the receiver, seems there is a problem with at least the 500khz if board, very low output. Luckily I have a few spare RF tuners as well as several spare IF boards and a spare power supply board. Radio has two VIDEO outputs although I have discovered that connecting a video monitor to these does not result in a video picture on the TV bands. This is despite the manual expressly talking about a video monitor (maybe they meant something else).

Radio has a tape strip for frequency readout which is highly inaccurate. Luckily each RF tuner has an LO ouput bnc. Offset is either 21.4Mhz (up to 250mhz) and then 60mhz for > 250mhz. If you are interested, I am working on a project to gut an HP 5245L nixie counter, emedding a pic to subtract the offset and then drive the nixies. Should be about 10 years before I finish that project. But BOY does a nice nixie frequency display look GREAT with this receiver!
